Letter #5: From Gerrick to Elenwen

30th of Last Seed, 4E 201

To the Esteemed Elenwen, First Emissary of the Thalmor:

As stated in the enclosed journal entry, Kethrina is finally beginning to enter the Hold capitals. She was correct in that we can not act openly in Windhelm, but I was able to follow her into the city, which allowed me to witness much of what she has described (most of it accurate). The clash between her and Calixto was dramatic indeed. It and her other activities have made her a minor hero in that city. That could cause problems should she ever seek sanctuary there.

However, we have an opportunity thanks to this information. Kethrina states she is going to Riften, where the Stormcloaks’ influence is not as a strong (Jarl Laila Law-Giver has doubts about Ulfric’s true intentions).

I also know that all visitors to the city are made to use the north gate where they are pressed to pay a bribe to the guard (the “visitor’s tax”). I believe we have two possible chances to capture her here:

The first is outside the north gate. I suggest having a team disguised as bandits lying in wait for her.

The second becomes available if she kills Grelod the Kind (my sources indicate the old woman is abusive to her charges). For this, we can either pose as guards or as citizens lending a hand to apprehend a wanton criminal.

This may be the best chance we have. Please, I urge you to take advantage of it. Knowing Kethrina, she will look for every landmark on her way there, so we should have at least two or three days to prepare. I will notify you again when she is close to arriving.

Sincerely Yours,

Gerrick

For the glory of the Aldmeri Dominion!
